Interstate I-35 and NE 36th Street Interchange

This project was the construction of a new interchange on Interstate I-35 with NE 36th Street in Ankeny, IA. The work was performed during 2012 and consisted of grading and paving to re-align Interstate I-35 and upgrade NE 36th street to FHWA standards for interchange traffic.

New bridges over NE 36th Street were previously constructed under a previous contract, also by McAninch Corporation in 2011. This job contained the work to grade and pave approaches to the new bridges, complete work on a new triple 10’X10’reinforced concrete box culvert, install new median and storm sewer drainage pipe and two new signalized On/Off ramp intersections. McAninch Corporation was subcontracted to Concrete Technologies, Inc. to perform grading and underground utility work.

 Brief Listing of Quantities:

  • Excavation and grading of over 290,000 cubic yards of earthwork
  • Installation of ±5,800 lineal feet of underground utilities
  • Construction of ±65 inlets, manholes and structures
  • Over nine miles of earth shoulder finishing and construction

As one of the key stakeholders to assure completion on the Early Completion Schedule, McAninch Corporation facilitated Concrete Technologies, Inc. to complete the job ahead of the “Drop Dead - No Excuse” completion date. The project stakeholders collected the full $200,000.00 completion bonus for the project. This allowed the Iowa Department of transportation and The City of Ankeny to open the interchange and the adjacent NE 36th Street paving project on the date as promised to the public.
