Meet Nathan Tucker

Nathan Tucker has been working for a couple of decades, but he hasn’t worked for a company that treats employees as well as he says McAninch does – day in and day out.

“Beyond the opportunities and good pay, it’s the simple things like receiving a company shirt,” Tucker says.

He joined the company in the spring of this year as a hoe operator on a utility crew, making a move from Missouri to Iowa to work for the company. In addition to cattle farming, he did similar work in Missouri. However, the opportunities for work weren’t as expansive as they are in the growing Des Moines metro area.

Since Tucker joined McAninch, he’s worked on residential projects, such as laying the main sewer pipe in a subdivision. When we visited with him, his crew was working on beautiful wooded lots in Polk City.

“I couldn’t ask for a better crew of guys to work with,” Tucker says. “I enjoy getting up every morning and coming to work. I’m making good money, we have a lot of work and the people are friendly.”

For young people starting out with the company, his advice is straightforward – always be on your toes, have patience and try to learn something new every day.”

“Over the years, I’ve learned a lot by watching other people,” he says. “You can pick up great techniques from experienced operators.”

In his spare time, he appreciates Iowa’s quality of life.

“It’s a really clean state. Even being in the Des Moines area, it’s so spread out that you don’t feel like you’re in a big city,” he says.

In his spare time, his family enjoys raising horses, roping and participating in the kids’ sporting activities.

“When I see the different projects we’ve completed to help the Des Moines area grow, it gives me a lot of pride,” Tucker adds.
